Malice here, The 13th Street Morgue is without a doubt one of the best haunted houses in DFW. If you care about extremely detailed environments and a theme that follows throughout a haunted house rather than just going from room to room and seeing random things, then the Morgue is for you! But not so fast! If you have seen the Morgue last year and possibly the year before, then you might be a little disappointed. The layout is the same, so for someone like me who has been visiting them every year since they have opened, I already know where the scares are and that really bothers me. I was hoping to see something new but I did not see enough to make me say “WOW!” They have added new touches like pneumatic props and some small additions inside the house part, but it did not seem like enough. What makes the Morgue so awesome is the building and detailing throughout. It is not just made of plywood hallways and cheap props. In the past, their actors were great. I can never recall a moment when I walked through and their actors were off or not in character. This year it just seemed a little flat. Some of the actors were off and some of them just seemed to walk slow and stare at you. That’s great but after awhile you feel like you want someone or something to jump out at you to give you a good scare. That is what this haunt lacked this year. I never jumped once but maybe that’s because I felt like I already knew where everyone was. It’s not the scariest haunted house around, but it is very cool to walk through and look at the cool scenery. It’s worth the price tag of $13 and if you have never seen the 13th Street Morgue before, then you are in for a treat.
