hey yeah i know it says i was there on haloween but i was there everynight of the season from open to close i loved it i ran the monster maze! i had black hair towards the begining of the season but towards the end i had bright red hair (and yes i am a dorky explorer)
but anyways i had the time of my life here at the manor and met some really awesome people i will never forget but that is not the reason i am writing
the last night at the manor the all sat by the bond fire and i was messing around with my new phone and someone threw the empty t-shirt box into the fire so i thought hey that would be a cool picture so i took a picture of the fire and it looked like just a picture of fire then i put iet as my background on my phone whitch made it zoom in and there was a figure of a young girl that looked to be screaming a week later my phone turned off and for some reason it wouldn't tturn back on there was nothing wrong with it i had just bought it i think that the cruse did call me crazy call me what you want but i don't care and i can't wait for next season

if anyone remebers me feel free to contact me

p.s. is it true that you will be having a closing time next year?

Hey, I know the date says Halloween, but I really came out on March 22, 2008. Anyhow, really liked the Manor and will definitely come back next year to see everything.

I don't know if ya'll say if that place is really haunted or not, but I did have an interesting experience regardless: I was sitting in the movie theater thing second row from the front eating with two friends when I felt a small hand brush my back and a shiver up my spine. I turned around and there was no one behind us for four rows. It didn't feel bad at all, it felt benign, if anything. I would guess it was one of the children, maybe, if I didn't imagine it.

Just thought that was kinda interesting. Great haunt!

Ill start of by saying its nice that the house is ran by volunteers and it is for charity and it seemed that a lot of effort was put into this...but I left horrified b/c of some of the stuff that I don't understand how they havenlt been sued for. (Spoilers ahead)Starting off with the line that I stood in for 1hr and 50mins not cuz there was so many people but because all actors are givin a 30min break all at once instead of one at a time.. Plus its a good wait btwn groups. Anyways inside there was a ceiling that lowered pretty far down in pitch black w/no warning...it hurt my taller coworker. I was jabbed in the stomache w/a chainsaw, sprayed and splashed w/water the whole place reeks of propane. One actor started to spray me in the face (no scare attatched) and when I covered my face he yelled and continued to soak my jacket......the thing that I can't believe they did was picked a young girl customer and with out permission two guys picked her up and put her on a table while several guys force held her hands and feet down while they sprayed her multiple times in the face then pretnded like they were gunna hit her with large heavy objects....and tickled her...it kinda looked like rape. Afterwards she was rubbing her eyes tring to get the water out...one of there walls shocked me. Things on the pathway to trip over. A hard dark cave scraped my hand up just tring to find my way out. Actors grabbing my friends beard and pulling on it. I didn't think chainsaws were aloud indoors? Didnlt see one saftey exit signs anywhere...many many things had me wondering how they past fire inspections. I was grabbed and touched and when I would say don't touch me (n non scared tone) they would just do it more one actor actually pushed my friend outa the way to grab me by the hips and push me forward. Uncle stinkys playhouse was awful... entering we are made to duck lower and lower to get through(ow on my back) then there was a couple of rooms that I can't even remember then you get let in a big room with hanging sheets and I guess its suppose to be a maze ...but I found my way out instantly....but at least no one touched me or sprayed me. Santa in the other house got to grabby with me....but like I said I saw tha effort but I don't go to haunted house to get wet, touched, tickled, or hurt....I think if they focused on scaring with out all of the above and improving saftey and line time and maybe having a couple of animatronic props it would be a great haunt....

well, without being too tacky, you need to read the sign at the front. Reindeer Manor and all the haunts here are touch and interactive.
Comments from Admin:
A large majority of the things you bring up are not only known about but in fact are done on purpose. The lack of percieved safety is completely an illusion. We have been open for over 30 years and very much know what we are doing... you are never EVER actually in danger.

I am going to hide a large majority of your text because it is a spoiler to many folks wanting to come out, but one thing you did bring up that needs attention is the line. The break was given on the final night to all the voulenteers at once as a reward so that they could see the rooftop show. Normally they never get a chance to see it and one night a year we ask our patrons patience to allow them the indulgence.

With all that said and your last statement "I think if they focused on scaring with out all of the above and improving saftey and line time and maybe having a couple of animatronic props it would be a great haunt"
Because safety and line time are not issues (you just percieved them as such because that is the way we wanted you to) and quite frankly we will probably never have any animatronics in the main attraction because anyone can do that and its just not our style... sounds like we cant improve at all and we are a great haunt in your opinion :D.

You say you left horrified because of the things you couldnt understand how we havent been sued for? Then you left satisfied because horror is what you pay us for ;)
Comments from cassie:
With out my permission u cannot touch me. I wouldnlt have gone through if I knew I was going to be groped. (Not just touched) illusion?? Not real fire, chainsaw stabbing my stomach? It felt so real.. Was the smell of propane throughout the house an illusion as well. Has a fire marshal ever been.. Don't u need fire exits and such? Has a wheel chair ever made it through? Illusion as well? Anyways thank u for hiding my warning that I wish I had seen before I went. I didn't leave satisfied I left pissed cold and wet.. Violated, stomach hurting and scared.....for others. Im glad u have been doing this for 30 years..its not 1977 its no longer ok to assault customers anymore even with a sign I never saw. its not that it was bad.. Just kinda dangerous (not an illusion) maddening. My three friends and I all left hurt in so way. My friend was practically sodimized with a chainsaw. REVIEW UR ''TAPES'' and see how many people got hurt. What do have to say bout the young girl that got held down by a bunch of men that got tickled and sprayed in the eyes? It would be much better with out the touching and spraying of customers. Wish u the best ur friend in frieght mistress cassie p.s. Customer don't like to be groped and they give u money think about it. If they don't leave mad they might bring u their money the following year.
Comments from Admin:
yes a fire marshal has been, in fact the fire department hangs out on the property for fun when they are not on call. We do have fire exits, they are hidden until there is an emergency. We are completely ADA compliant, and in fact had four guest in wheelchairs come through this season alone without any problem... they really had alot of fun. One of the members of the Boy Scout Troop who runs Reindeer Manor has a sister who is wheelchair bound so we are very much sensitive to making the house accessable to all. The girl being held down happens in each and every group that went through the house this season, and will probably be done again next season. This has been a recurring room in the house for YEARS without incident. We know about every person who gets badly hurt or has a problem in the house. We do review the tapes to make sure that no one is getting hurt by anything other than their own excitement. We cant do much about that. If you just want to get frightened in an air conditioned location sitting in a nice cushy chair, we suggest a slasher movie. Those are a dime a dozen... Reindeer Manor is totally and completely unique as you obviously found out the night you visited. If it wasnt your cup of tea, we completely understand.

With all that said, we never EVER assult anyone with anything. In the 30+ years we have been opperational we have never had to defend ourselves for an assult charge. Now if you didnt like being touched, we completely understand and can suggest to you many haunted houses in the metroplex which are a great value, but you need to be careful what words you use to describe things. Assult is a fellony which we, as Boy Scouts, find very VERY offencive and rude. You were touched, not assulted. If you feel like you were asulted the Red Oak Police Department's phone number is 972-617-7632. Words mean things and until you are ready to press charges, please do not refer to being assulted again.

a large percentage of our visitors each season are repeat customers from previous seasons. Obviously when you say "customers dont like..." you are not speeking for very many people. You have your opinions and they are completely valid, however it would be wise not to assume you speek for all of our guests because you are most definately not doing so.

Well, we made the 9 hour drive to Dallas and ended up going, despite the reviews. We do feel it was worth the cost of admission. We were entertained for a full 4 hours and really, as a family had a good time. That being said, as an adult, no I would go abck if I were wanting a real haunt.

The first place we went was Stinkies. It had the worst reviews, so we wanted to knock the worst out first. There were two girls in clown suits and a bunch of sheets. We had hopes of something there, but nothing ever came of it. It was not so bad, it was the only one that actually made my husband jump. He is 6'4", 250 pounds, and all about military. So, to see a little girl clown startle him was amuzing. I wondered if his size and over all personality may have kept the actors from picking on him as much. I wish they had showed him more attention, but everyone just walked about him when they went to scare him. LOL

The next place we went to was the manor. I have to say, the very best part of this trip was waiting in the line. There was a tall, thin zombie there that did some really cute dances. Ol' Greg was not as funny as he could have been, but the tall zombie was AMAZING! I just wanted to take him home with me. We had never laughed so hard or had so much fun at any of the events we had went to, thus far. As for the manor, well it was actually our least favorite. There were parts of it that were interesting, but for the most part, I was not even impressed with most of the props in there. I did like the entrance, only because my husband is 6'4" and when the ceiling caved in, he had to fall to the floor. LOL Some of the kids were really creepy, but some were just silly. It was entertaining though and well worth the money we spent.

We saved the best for last. The morgue. It was the better of the three and nicely done inside. The actors were a little older and did a much better job of scaring the kids. The Santa scared our son, 6' 230 pound football player, into tears. It was worth the whole price of admission to see him shake. LOL I have no real complaints of the actually haunted house, but could really be scary with a little work. I can see where it would even scare adults with just a little extra umph.

Now, for the reason we will never return. When we entered the morgue, there was a lady that was following us. We have a 12 year old daughter that is all of 100 pounds and 5'2", not a big girl at all. The lady who was leading us and taunting us in the grave yard part outside was rude. I was aggrivated and it ruined the rest of the haunt for myself, our daughter and my husband. The lady had followed us around chanting "naha naha nahan hanahan anah na na". It was not creepy or spooky in the least, but more on out nerves. Our daughter turned around and said. "naha naha nahan hanahan anah na na" back at her. The lady instantly came out of character and rudely dirrected a comment at my daughter while addressing me. Her exact statement was, "If you do not control your daughter and stop her from mocking, we will throw her out". My polite reply directly to the actor was, her ticket was $25 and she will mock who ever she feels like as long as the actors are allowed to mock and touch us. That was the end of that. My daughter did it in fun as the actors had been mocking and picking the lines on all of our waits. They had even taken my husbands hat at one time. We never got rude or really minded, it was all in good fun. Then, $100 later, to be informed they were going to throw a 12 year old girl out for saying "naha naha nahan hanahan anah na na" to an actor that was nothimg more than annoying in the first place, well we will not spend another $100 there. It was not like our children were the loud ones or the ones who ruined everyones night. She was just tired of this lady chanting this in her ear. The rest of us were too tall for this actor to chant in our ears, so she really over killed it on our daughter. I want to clear up that our daughter was not loud in doing it, nor was there anyone else on the tour with us at that time. We did not have any problems with our children being rude or mean to anyone, had they, it would have been worse for them from us than the actors. I strongly dislike when someone talks to me and directs it at a 12 year old child. I even more dislike how we were threatened. Had it not been for my husband, I wanted to go to managment, but he said let it go. Then the clown at the end was priceless. If all the actors ahd put into it what the clown and the zombie did, we would make the 9 hour trip again next year.

The only good thing about it, after the woman in the yard, was that our money went to the boy scouts. That is the only reason my husband let the whole disrespect slide. We liked like what the whole attraction was about and how it was run. It just needed a little extra personality and adult touches. That sad thing is, the lady in the yard was an adult, maybe it needed more children actors after all.

I hope next year you have things worked out. I also hope the actors are more child friendly if they are going to be allowed to taunt, they should be mature enough to take it back.

the actress you are talking about was new that night and has been corrected. We appologize for the hitch in, what sounded like, an otherwise fun evening.

our purpose is not to simply scare you... some people just arent scare-able or at least are scared by things that others arent... it is far too essoteric to be able to create an attraction for the masses to try to scare everyone. We try to focus more on entertainment and value for the dollar. For $25 per person you can spend a whole night out and doing different things, enjoying different food and having a good time for hours and hours. If you are looking for a pee your pants scare fest... i doubt you will find it, but we are definately not it.

Okay ------- I just wrote the previous review, and just got home a little while ago from seeing the rest of the haunts (Stinkie's and the main Manor). To be honest, my wife and I WERE STILL IMPRESSED. I thought the girl at the beginning in the main house was perfect (although a little hard to hear). Cletus and the big dude WERE FREAKIN AWESOME. The props were FIRST RATE. I definitely missed the girl slaughtering the bunny rabbit, and the young scientist (bless his heart) was just a little too young. And, unfortunately, I think some older people should have been doing what some of the younger kids were (sorry). But I was still blown away by the show. It was thoroughly entertaining. I actually thought the actors in Stinkies were great, as was the one guys "bedroom". Now, Stinkies actual house ---- almost worthless (sorry again). The price of admission to it is robbery, and needs A LOT of work. But honestly, I thought the guys who were the clowns were fun and the perfect blend of weirdo.

Now, here is my biggest gripe. The group we went with into the main house SUCKED. I know you can't control people ---- and kids will be kids ------ but let me explain. We waited in line for a modest thirty minutes to go through the main house. Once we got to the front though, a group of three punks walked up to the front of our line and started muttering something to the ticket takers about being "best friends" with so and so in the haunt. They then preceded to be granted access immediately before us into the house without waiting a single moment in line! Okay, so some people get special attention. But these guys started acting like fools and blabbering about who was their friend in the haunt and who wasn't, and joking about everything from the moment we entered into the first brick-wall corridor room. This then sparked some of the other younger kids to begin cracking jokes at everything, and flipping their cell phones open in the dark so we could all "see". I'm sorry, but that was absolute you-know-what! They were talking and joking so loudly with that first coffin girl actress I could barely hear her. One of those security guard guys came up to them and told them to be quiet, which lasted for about two minutes. The security guard actually followed us all the way to the fire swamp, but never corrected all the laughing, joking, and blabbering. One of the other people in our group told the kids to stop flipping open their phones in the dark, and to stop ruining it. I was glad that when we got to Cletus' rib thing they started fooling with those kids enough to shut them up for the rest of the haunt. So my beef is with "crowd control" I guess. I understand we're there to have a good time and interact. But it's one thing when a group is being loud because they are frightened or having fun. It's another when they are mocking everything loudly, flipping open their cell phones to be "witty", and blabbering about which actors they know and whose cool and who hates them and how gay everything is, etc. Now, you can't control everyone. But what is the purpose of the security dude who followed us for several rooms? He should have escorted them out or put his foot down. And they should have not been allowed to cut. A movie theater where I pay 7$ a ticket would expect some respect of it's patrons when the movie starts, and would ask them to leave if they were too loud and rambunctuous FOR NO REASON. So if I'm going to pay $50 for me and my wife to see something we love, why is it allowed to be disgraced by a bunch of kids who are trying to steal the show? I felt like asking for my money back and giving it to them.

So, after ranting a little bit ------ Reindeer Manor still rocks, and is still THE BEST. But just a LITTLE more crackdown on people who are obviously ruining it for others during the show would be much appreciated. Like I said, I know we are there to have fun, but when people are just loudly mocking everything for all to hear non-stop ----- shut them up or get them out! Don't let your hard work be tarnished!

See you next year (hopefully!)

I hear you ....... maybe this will help. I went two years ago and WAS ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY. I was thoroughly impressed with their concept. I went with my wife on a night when there happened to not be throngs of people. Waiting in the dimly lit tent in the field parking lot for the hayride to pick us up and transport us to the actual haunts with only a dozen or so people set the mood immediately. From the old horror movie theater in the barn with torn up seats to the campfire and hot cocoa, the personal care and attention paid to everything really added to an atomosphere of a 'country Texas haunt' experience. The haunts also had a perfect blend (for us) of interactive theatrical rooms and your typical walk-through spook-you-from the corner rooms. But the detail and thought that went into it all was just awesome --- the way halloween haunts should be. The opening theatrics in the main house with the "nesferatu" and his waifs, the little girl slaughtering a bunny rabbit behind opaque walls, and a "spirit" lurching forth from a flame-lit swamp splashing us with water were a few of the memorable moments.

THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, this year we went with high expectations. Not to be negative , but we went on a night when there was those throngs of people. We waited in line to go through the 13th street morgue for probably close to 1.5 hours. And this was after working a 12 hour shift a 45 minute drive away! The wait was partly long due to some drunk guy losing his wedding ring in the Morgue. It was respectable they shut down the entrance to look for the ring, but of course no-one likes to wait. Now, IT WAS WORTH IT. The 13th street morgue was better (to us) than it was 2 years ago. The way they space you out to go through in just your group really made the haunt quaint, personal, and spooky. The detail in the MORGUE and the costumes the actors wear made me jump several times (and I'm a 225 pound medic who has seen it all). It's not that it's scary per say, but it catches you off guard in ways your not expecting, even for haunted houses. And the detail (I can't say enough). The antique props were extremely impressive. So even after waiting in line for over an hour, and their being lots of people ----- the morgue rocked!

Unfortunately, we went next to the main Manor. We waited in line for twenty minutes, and moved one person length forward. Looking forward to a 45 minute drive back home (and another 12 hour shift the next day), we had to call it quits! We kept our wristband tickets to return another day (hopefully tommorrow, sat nov.3)

Now, I say all this to show a couple of things. I've read all the reviews, and to be honest ----- I am afraid the main house and the clown house will be disappointing. I agree with admin: no one likes to wait in lines. But my point is ---- to us it's worth it. We appreciate quality, and Reindeer Manor is unique. Even if we are disappointed in the rest of the 'show' this year, we will still go back next year. Reindeer Manor is kind of like that specialty restaurant that can only make that certain kind of food that special way. Sometimes what you order will be better than others, but you can only get it at that restaurant.

So, I promise I haven't been prompted by admin to leave this review! I'm just being honest ---- Reindeer Manor (two years ago) was the most entertaining and worthwhile haunted house I've been to. This year, so far, the ambiance was a little less due to the larger crowds and longer wait times ---- but what can you do about that? People know where to go to find a good thing

I am thinking about going to this and buying the 3way pass, but after all the reviews, I was wondering if they got the bugs worked out of it. I do not want to drive 8 hours and bring my whole family if it is lame or we ar rushed. We have 2 teen agers and my husband loves real haunted stuff. I am worried it will be pretty lame to him as well. He is looking for a haunted house that will scare him. Any feed back would be nice. We will be in Dallas Saturday, so as much info as anyone can give would be nice. We just dont want to waste $100 and find out it was as bad as the reviews. Thanks

beware of the "bad reviews" that are on the first page. They have all been on weekends when we had a considerable amount of visitors (over 2000 each night) and the sheer number of guests make for problems which arent there on other nights as you can see from viewing earlier reviews. The link to other reviews is a bit hard to find if you dont know it is there. Obviously this weekend we will not be nearly as crowded.

that being said, it is all a matter of opinion. Some folks just dont like the concept, and some do - those who dont like the main attraction usually enjoy the morgue and vice versa. We try very hard to provide something for everyone, but when there are 3 hour waits in line nobody is going to be very happy.

also take a minute to read the reviews at DFW Haunted Houses for a completely independent point of view. There are several from their in house reviewers as well as real people reviews as well.

IT WAS EXCELLENT!!!
(this is my second year)
there is a few fixes that would be nice though, like the act that usually happens in the graveyard of the main haunted house and on the roof, that wasn't there tonight when i went (i was looking forward to it especially since it was halloween night)
and i find the vampire room a slight waste since nothing is done in there except a child screaming in my face...
i really liked the hay ride to the main park from the parking lot and the lines moved pretty smoothely...
so overall i will definately come back again!

the rooftop show was there, but odds are it happened after you left... we dont do them until around 10pm (thats when the house actors need a break and the show helps keep folks in line entertained)

sorry you didnt get to see it though... come out again this weekend, you can hit the midway and see the free shows without spending a dime :)
